Design from the 50s, 60s and the 70s period has this magic combination of minimalism and the baroque. If you are a retro aficionado, then you know excatly what to look for and how to put it together. Although you tend to recreate the styles of the past with original furnitures and accessories, don't get carried away by authenticity, which can look too artificial. Instead, experiment with colors, materials and shapes that reflect the character of the retro era - 50s, 60s or 70s, whichever you prefer.
For example, if you have a fabulous high back 70s chair, like this
Nick Club Chair - Cherry Red , throw in a furry carpet underneath in orange, avocado or turquoise - and you got your 70s look. Incorporate furniture that's either bright, curvy, shiny or smooth, and made of fur, leather, or plastic, for the rest of your living room. If you'd want to go the extra mile, paint walls two contrasting colors or wallpaper a room with a geometric motif.
