What used to be a perfect living room arrangement
is now becoming inconvenient or intrusive. Fashion
and circumstances change. Children grow up. Do
you have the courage to re-define and thus re-design
your living room? If you're ready, start by taking
a tour of your house, and try to imagine it empty.
Take note on what kind of activity do you usually
do in each and every room of your home. Jot down
those underutilized spaces, including the store
room, the roof space, under the stair way, hallways,
etc. The objective is to ensure that each and
every inch of space is being put to use.

1. Up or down?
Gone are the days where it is necessary
to have the living room on the ground floor.
Perhaps your bedroom has a great view, with
a sunny aspect. Why not turn it into a living
area? Perhaps you could also relocate all
of your daily activities upstairs and turn
the ground floor into your bedroom. Another
alternative would be the basement area,
which could also be turned into a great
living area, specially if it has access
to the garden

2. Separation
If your current living room is necessary
to accommodate your family's daily routines,
why not considering a separate room for
your own retreat? This is only possible
if space is still a luxury. You can furnish
it in a style of your preference that is
different from the rest of the room in your
house.
3. Nowhere to go
If space is a premium, be creative. Create
a mini 'living spot' within the rooms in
your house - a sofa in the kitchen, an arm
chair in the bathroom and hallway, a park
bench and coffee table by the garden?
